DowneTowne recently chatted with Regina who runs an event called the Push Party, every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month in Los Angeles. If you're in the LA area, her party is a MUUUUUST!
Are you born and raised in Los Angeles?
I'm born and raised on Oahu. Kailua :) From Hawaii my family moved to The Bay Area (SF). I recently moved to LA 3yrs ago and have been throwing parties ever since.
Tell us about your event, the Push Party? How long has it been going on?
I've been throwing this event for 2 1/2yrs now in West Hollywood.
What was your inspiration for starting the event?
In a very fancy LA/ Hollywood scene.... I wanted to create a backyard boogie type atmosphere where there's no dress code, high prices, cliques or bad attitudes. I wanted a variety of music you wouldn't normally hear at a regular club. The backyard boogie jams that makes you wanna drink & dance. The type of place that makes you start dancing the second you get in. The type of place you go to PARTY and have fun, not to just be seen.
What is the lesbian scene/community in Los Angeles like?
In such a big city there is a club for everyone. There are clubs that play All Top 40, All hiphop, or all Spanish music. Rarely is there a mix of everything. At The Push Party we throw it all in. Hawaiian reggae, bay area hiphop, classic hiphop, rnb, reggaeton, salsa, cumbias, house, dubstep, electro.
Anything else you'd like to share with us? Upcoming events, tidbits, etc?
The push party is every 2nd & 4th Saturday at Hollywood Canteen 1006 Seward St. West Hollywood, CA 90038
May 14 & 28 this month!
We are also throwing a HUGE long Beach Pride after party Sunday May 22.
